The affordable housing crisis is at an all-time high for low income earners in the City of Toronto. According to the Poverty, Housing, and Homelessness report issued by the City of Toronto, one in five households lives in housing that is too small, needs repair, or is unaffordable. There are more than 600,000 low income families living in Toronto and more than 76,000 households remain on a wait list for one of the 93,000 social housing spots. That’s a 7% increase from 2009 and 15.1% increase from 2007.

The Habitat for Humanity Toronto homeownership model ensures low income families own their home. At Habitat for Humanity Toronto, 28% of our funding comes from individuals. From the dollar sent to us by a school child to a large gift from a major donor, each and every donation supports our efforts to build homes with families in need in Toronto.

Fundraise

Be an advocate for Habitat Toronto and raise critical funds while raising awareness about affordable housing.

• Organize an event or a pledge drive by yourself or with a group to collect donations from your friends, family, colleagues, community or place of worship. Create your very own fundraising web page and/or use a pledge form to track your results. Your efforts could build a kitchen, a roof or an entire Habitat Toronto home for a family in need. Contact Sarah Bullick at 416-755-7353 x 237 for more fundraising information.

Designate

Company managed philanthropy programs

• United Way Donations - Although Habitat for Humanity Toronto does not receive grant support from United Way, you can direct your individual donation to Habitat Toronto.  Simply write "Habitat for Humanity Toronto" on the reverse side of the United Way pledge form.  The United Way will forward your pledges to us. 
• Many companies offer a matching gift program enabling employees to substantially increase their finanical gift support to Habitat Toronto. To take advantage of this program, contact your Human Resource or Community Relations department.

Celebratory and Planned Giving

Leave a legacy of hope

• You can help address housing needs in Toronto now and in the future by remembering us in your will or making another type of planned gift. Through our planned giving options, Habitat for Humanity Toronto can help you achieve your financial and philanthropic goals. Designate a fixed dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or a particular piece of property. And, by applying investment principles to charitable giving, Habitat Toronto can ensure that your dollars have the greatest impact in transforming the lives of those living in need.  There are so many reasons we would be glad you remembered us!

Celebration and In Memoriam Gifts

• As you plan gifts for family and friends this year, consider a celebration gift that keeps on giving long after the wedding, anniversary, birthday, graduation, holiday or another special event or memorial. Upon receipt of your minimum $20 contribution, we will send a card acknowledging the gift you made to Habitat for Humanity Toronto in honour of, or in memory of, the person you are celebrating.

Life Insurance

• When you donate a life insurance policy, you are providing a substantial future gift for Habitat for Humanity Toronto.  Your regular monthly payments toward a life insurance policy over several years can become a large financial contribution in the future!

Annuities

• A charitable gift Plus Annuity is a financially prudent way to support fighting poverty housing while  taking care of your own financial needs

Securities
