Senator David Smith was Chairman of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP prior to his appointment to the Senate in June, 2002. David was born in Toronto, graduated in political science from Carleton and from Queens in law.

In addition to his legal career, David was an executive assistant to two cabinet ministers in the Pearson and Trudeau governments and he also served as an M.P. and federal cabinet minister in the last parliament of Mr. Trudeau’s government.

In the 70’s, while practising law, David also served on Toronto City Council and as President of Toronto City Council. He chaired Prime Minister Chretien’s election campaigns. David has served on many non-profit charitable boards and also maintains an office at Fraser Milner Casgrain’s Toronto office in his capacity as Chairman Emeritus of the firm.
