When you meet Garnett Crossman, you are immediately taken by his eagerness to help. Garnett has a humble demeanour and selfless character that will draw out the best in anyone. These qualities, together with his unwavering dedication to the Habitat Toronto mission, are why Garnett Crossman is Habitat Toronto's 2009 Volunteer of the Year.
Garnett joined the Habitat for Humanity Toronto family in 1998 and is an active volunteer in many areas of Habitat Toronto. "I really enjoy how there are so many volunteer opportunities," Garnett shares. "I volunteer at the Toronto ReStore, at the Gingerbread Build, and on various Habitat build sites in Toronto and Windsor. I also went on a Habitat for Humanity Global Village Build in Hungary."
Garnett is an advocate for affordable housing and the need for homeownership. He has shared Habitat for Humanity Toronto's story with schools, colleges, and community groups through outreach presentations and conversation.
"I regularly suggest to people that they would enjoy volunteering at Habitat for Humanity Toronto because in my opinion, it is an experience like no other," explains Garnett. "It not only makes you feel good, but it really means a lot to the people you are helping."
Habitat for Humanity Toronto was thrilled to award Garnett at the 2009 Habitat Appreciation Night for the hundreds of hours he has donated to Habitat Toronto over ten years of support and generosity. Oyee Garnett!
