Your 'second career' can be your most rewarding
Retired or soon-to-be retired volunteers play an important role at Habitat for Humanity Toronto. Most retirees are available during the week, and their skills and experience are critical our organization. Throughout Habitat Toronto’s history, retired persons have been the backbone of the volunteer pool that has helped propel the organization’s mission forward and help us build over 200 homes for families living in need here in Toronto. Whether in our offices, on the build sites, in the ReStores/Salvage area or by promoting our organization through speaking engagements – we welcome and appreciate our retired volunteers!
No experience is necessary. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, while at the same time contributing to a great cause. Come on out and swing a hammer (or stapler) with us.

Coming this Fall (September 20th - 25th): over 900 volunteers will participate in Habitat for Humanity Toronto’s inaugural ReTooling Build to kick start the construction of 20 new simple, decent and affordable homes at 4572 Kingston Road.
This 6 day blitz build will bring together Retirees and soon-to-be Retirees from across the GTA and North America to volunteer on a Habitat Toronto construction site and fundraise $100,000 towards the cost of the development.
Together, ReTooling Build participants will help low-income families’ escape poverty housing through home ownership.
The ReTooling Build will enable individuals in the process of moving into the second phase of their lives to give back to their community through a tangible and meaningful way. When people with the will and determination to make a difference come together in a supportive environment, amazing things can happen. The goal of the ReTooling Build is to provide an environment in which retired individuals, with the time and commitment to give back, can feel comfortable learning skills, meeting new people, and developing a deeper commitment to volunteerism and philanthropy. The more volunteers and donors Habitat Toronto is able to engage long-term, the greater number of homes that can be built each year for families living in need.
